Organised by the Berliner Festspiele, the MaerzMusik festival is one of the most important festivals for new music in Germany. Since 2002, it has been held annually in March at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele and other venues in Berlin.

Time and music are closely linked, as music is only perceived over time. Sound, melodies, harmonies and dynamics unfold over time, making music one of the most fleeting art forms. However, listening to music does not make us feel that time is a scarce, fleeting commodity. On the contrary: music can make the present more conscious, it can stretch it into a long duration or concentrate on the moment.

The social dimensions of this year's music festival can be recognised right from the opening concert. The Weimar Triangle will be commemorated musically at the Saarland Representation to the Federal Government in Berlin. The Weimar Triangle is an association of the three countries Poland, Germany and France, which aims to promote co-operation on a European level. The chamber music programme with works by Poulenc, Beethoven and Szymanowski musically reflects this European diversity in unity.more

European Cultural Award meets Capital of Culture
We are Europe: on 9 May 2025, the European Cultural Awards will be presented at Chemnitz Opera House. A slogan that provides the central theme for this extraordinary evening. The aim is to celebrate 40 years as Capital of Culture. On stage at Chemnitz Opera will be an orchestra comprising musicians from 34 nations, as well as outstanding artists, politicians and institutions that have shaped Europe.
