EUROPEAN DAY OF COMMEMORATION

How can Europeans learn to understand that their cultural heritage unites them as well as it creates a distinction between them, and that this cultural heritage offers a possibility to discover and understand each other? In 1991, to meet this challenge, the Council of Europe has brought the European Commemoration Days to life which became an initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in 1999. As part of this event visitors can see numerous sights and monuments all over Europe which are not usually accessible to the public. The European Commemoration 2016 in Switzerland focuses on free spaces which function as oases in the everyday life and have an important contribution to the quality of life in Switzerland.
