European festival weeks
The festival was brought to life in 1952 by American officers in cooperation with the city of Passau. In the beginning the objective was „to show the common cultural heritage of Western Europe and to emphasize the need of a political union of Western Europe to the preservation and continuation of the values of this cultural heritage“. However, shortly after, the thought of bringing European culture closer to the citizens of Passau as well as to foreign guests became more important. Moreover it is an objective of the festival to overcome political barriers and to make cultural exchanges between people from both the eastern and western world possible. The 64th festival of the “European weeks” in Passau this year serves the motto „pure personal taste”. The whole programme with more than 60 events will be available by the end of March, 2016 in the festival programme book.
